Deviant Disco Paris

Such could be the motto of this unusual tribe, made up of a gathering of crate diggers, DJs, visual artists, performers and, ultimately, open-minded party-goers. Their goal: to make you dance to sounds very, very far removed from the conventional playlists of mainstream clubs. Born in the late 1970s from the ashes of psych-rock and flower power, disco music finds its roots in the great clubs of the New York area and in underground venues. Alas, it sometimes ended up sounding tedious and formulaic. As with all genres, a handful of artists nonetheless managed to break free from the original aspects of mainstream disco, subverting this musical style whilst giving birth to more considered sub-genres. In the early 1980s, the Italian cosmic disco scene paved the way for italo disco; across Europe, numerous composers — whether Belgian, French, German or Turkish, among others — gave rise to their own definition of disco music. Shortly afterwards, eager listeners would find disco productions available the world over, in South-East Asia, Africa, Brazil or even the Indian subcontinent, each region adding its own blend to the genre's canon. In Europe, the widespread use of synthesisers and relentless drum machines gradually set aside complex melodies, giving birth to what would come to be known as synth wave and death disco. Deviant Disco was born from all these musical currents. Moreover, DD is not merely a team of DJs and frenzied diggers — it is also a record label and a party organiser.
