Since its founding in 1877, La Bellevilloise has aimed to give everyone access to culture.
An independent, artistic, festive venue! Founded in 1877 in the aftermath of the Commune, La Bellevilloise, Paris's first cooperative, set out to give ordinary people access to political education and culture.
A place of resistance, of the first commercial exchanges "from producer to consumer" — fair trade before the term existed — and of performance, La Bellevilloise played a leading role from 1910 to 1949 in the economic and cultural life of eastern Paris.
Since 2005, Renaud Barillet, Fabrice Martinez and Philippe Jupin, a trio of agitators from the worlds of live performance, production and media, have reopened this site of Parisian historical memory to the people of Paris with a bold vision: to breathe new life into the spirit of La Bellevilloise by creating a large independent venue for artistic and events-based activities, open to the public, businesses and media alike, and unique in Paris.
Despite the surrounding frenzy, you immediately feel at home in this atypical 2,000 m² space. No doubt because this landmark of resistance, founded in 1877 and taken on by the talented team at Cultplace, has managed to preserve its DNA and continues to champion a rebellious and innovative spirit.
Today, La Bellevilloise dedicates its 2,000 m² to all forms of expression and experimentation:
